  • 12.08.2020 - IEEE/SMPTE Webcast "5G Opportunities for Media Distribution"

    Dr. Jordi J. Gimenez, 5G-MAG Project Manager, will be participating in the online webinar "5G Opportunities for Media Distribution" organised by IEEE BTS and SMPTE. 3GPP technologies are being shaped to accommodate features and functionalities demanded by the media industry. Originally driven by the needs of mobile networks to accommodate the increasing consumption of multimedia content, the scope has broadened to offer solutions to different stakeholders - including media service providers, CDN providers, network operators - for the distribution of services to the end users. Enhancements to 5G include features to improve its ability to distribute media content and services, not only using unicast but also relying on multicast or broadcast, edge caching, virtualized media functions, network slicing or even the potential of using both terrestrial and satellite networks. A wide set of options that may create the framework for enhancing IP-based distribution of media content to users.     5G-MAG is participating in the webinar " 5G FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF MEDIA CONTENT ", hosted by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and organized in collaboration with SWR, BBC, RAI and 5G-MAG. In this webinar, Roland Beutler (SWR), Andrew Murphy (BBC), Assunta De Vita (RAI) and Simon Elliott (BBC) will talk about the role 5G could play in the distribution of audiovisual media content. From 5G-MAG, Jordi J. Giménez will present the main topics within the scope of 5G-MAG for media distribution with a focus on the key aspects necessary for a successful deployment and implementation of 5G solutions .     On the 5th May between 12:05 -12:30 CEST. Antonio Arcidiacono, chair of the 5G-MAG Association will be participating in the "3GPP Progress so far: Industry Verticals and Releases 16 and 17" webinar. The "3GPP Progress so far: Industry Verticals and Releases 16 and 17" is part of a series of webinars co-hosted by 5G-IA, 5GAA, 5G-ACIA and PSCE, who are committed to helping sector specialists contribute to 5G standardisation in a global context. A part of the webinar is devoted to first-hand experiences from industry verticals representatives that have already contributed to 5G standardisation. Antonio will participate in the session "First-hand experiences from industry vertical Champions with Q&A" together with Michael Bahr from Siemens. The session is moderated by Maxime Flament, CTO of the 5GAA. More information about the event can be found here .
