- 09.05.22 - OSMART Workshop #1
OPEN-SOURCE MEDIA APPLICATION REFERENCE TOOLS WORKSHOP This is an online workshop organized by 5G-MAG and the DVB Project in collaboration with the DASH Industry Forum , the Consumer Technology Association and the HbbTV Association . It is open to anyone with an interest in open-source reference tools for use in the context of media applications. EVENT: OPEN-SOURCE MEDIA APPLICATION REFERENCE TOOLS WORKSHOP DATE: Monday 9th May 2022 TIME: 15:00 - 17:30 CEST LOCATION: ON-LINE AUDIENCE: The event is open to anyone with an interest in open-source reference tools for use in the context of media applications. It is in particular targeted to the development community, researchers and academia. SUMMARY OF THE WORKSHOP - Kickstarting deeper collaboration on open-source tools for media applications Five organizations that develop and promote open standards for media distribution came together in May for an online workshop aiming to kickstart deeper collaboration. The OSMART workshop – standing for Open-Source Media Application Reference Tools – was organized by the DVB Project and 5G-MAG in cooperation with the DASH Industry Forum , the HbbTV Association and the Consumer Technology Association WAVE Project. The workshop, which was attended by over 100 participants around the world, opened with six short presentations on relevant projects involving one or more of the participating organizations. The presentations were followed by an open discussion on possible technical synergies and opportunities for collaboration. The slides that were presented are available in the links below, along with an overview of the discussions that followed. The participating organizations agreed that it had been a valuable exercise and that they would welcome further activities under the OSMART banner. It provided an opportunity to better understand what each organization is doing in terms of software. It was particularly useful to clarify who is doing what in the overall distribution chain, with a distinction to be drawn between test materials, conformance frameworks and reference implementations. Based on these initial presentations, a future event could usefully identify opportunities to collaborate on development and to facilitate interoperability through building applications, use cases and demonstrations. The projects covered by this initial OSMART workshop were as follows: 5G-MAG Reference Tools DVB-I reference tools DASH-IF dash.js development DASH-IF JCCP (Joint Streaming Conformance Software Project) HbbTV Reference Video Application CTA WAVE Test Suite For further information, please get in touch with the relevant organization in each case. AGENDA The workshop is focused on the development of open-source software for media applications with a series of status updates and roadmaps on relevant projects from the five organizations mentioned above. These will be followed by a discussion on how collaboration and interoperability can be improved and potential next steps into commercial deployments. 15:00 to 16:30 CEST - Our Reference Tools Each organization will provide insight into their projects, logistics and roadmaps with the following presenters: 5G-MAG Reference Tools – Johann Mika (5G-MAG Reference Tools TFL, ORS) - Download slides DVB-I reference tools – Paul Higgs (Huawei) and Juha Joki (Sofia Digital) - Download slides DASH-IF dash.js development – Daniel Silhavy (Fraunhofer FOKUS) - Download slides DASH-IF JCCP (Joint Streaming Conformance Software Project) – Romain Bouqueau (Motion Spell) - Download slides HbbTV Reference Video Application - Juha Joki (Sofia Digital) - Download slides CTA WAVE Test Suite – Louay Bassbouss (Fraunhofer FOKUS) and Mike Bergman (CTA) - Download slides Replay the presentation from Johann Mika (5G-MAG Reference Tools) 16:30 to 17:00 CEST - Technical Synergies Questions and open discussion with the aim of detecting synergies and opportunities for collaboration and interoperability.
