Towards 6G Media

Study on Media Aspects for 6G System

This study aims to identify media-related opportunities and gaps in the context of 6G. It builds on service requirements defined by SA1 and architectural enhancements defined by SA2.

Its work topics are Media Delivery Architecture, 6G media, Media aspects related to SA2 topics, Media for ubiquitous access, Trusted and private communication for media, Software and asset management, and Real-time communication system enhancements. The conclusions of the study will form the basis for further detailed studies as well as normative work.

The part 5G-MAG builds is AI in Media Services, with two testbeds: the 6G AI Traffic Characterization Testbed, which measures the traffic of AI media services for the study, and the AI/ML Evaluation Framework, which evaluates the scenarios of TR 26.847 (AI and ML in 5G media services).

Characterise the Traffic of AI Media Services

Run AI service scenarios, from chat and agents to real-time video understanding, over emulated network conditions, and measure their traffic: volume and direction, bursts, response time and tokens. The same measurements answer the questions 6G radio and system design asks about AI traffic, such as whether it is uplink heavy.
